Intro

Welcome — this space is where I gather what I’m thinking about, what I’m reading, and what I’m working on. A kind of quiet corner of the internet, built for reflection and connection.

Right Now — What’s in it?

What I’m reading:
Learning how I should never mouthbreathe again, ever, thanks to Breath: The New Science of a Lost Art from James Nestor.
What I’m writing:
An article for work, an essay about meditation, and a long, early first draft of a book.
What I’m listening to:
D'Angelo (RIP always), Blind Boy Podcast, and a lot of white moise.
What I’m noticing:
How fresh white paint makes any space 1000% brighter.
What the weather is like:
A sad and happy walk under a perfectly blue sky with bright, fall-back sun that's almost warm on my skin.
Relatable quote:
“Maybe the seeds of your rebellion will always be forgotten.” — Hua Hsu, Stay True

Books (I Love) That Matter

Wind-Up Bird Chronicle UK paperback book cover

How do you write about a book you first read 20 years ago, as you started to learn what independence meant, how it felt. As you sat on the pebbly beaches of Nice, wondering why your American jeans just would never cut it here, with a used UK paperback, one that you'd never see back home in the States. At this point, Murakami is the literary canon of the 1990s through today, he is the go-to example of magic realism not in Latin America. And yet none of that matters: this book taught me how characters can be normal, plots can be unsolved, and that recurring wells, cooking pasta, and talking cats can make any story, even one about the Machurian invasion, something magical that you'll never forget. A vivid exploration of identity, solitude, and surreal possibility.

  • Who it’s for: Readers open to strange shit and layered, often unresolved storytelling.
  • Why read it: For a real escape, physical and metaphorical, and one that lingers.
  • Don't read this when: You want answers.
Wherever You Go There You Are book cover

If I told you that a deep-dive into depression is one of the best books I've ever read, would you believe me? This book is not foThe Noonday Demon: An Atlas of Depression.

  • Who it’s for: Those sufferring from mental health maladies who want to better understand depression, particularly through the lens of balance and awareness.
  • Why read it: Simple, grounded, and disarming in its honesty.
  • Don't read this when: You want clear answers to complicated mind matters, quick health fixes, and you believe that life is always, only progress.
The Extinction of Irina Rey book

What on earth is this book? An American protagonist who translates Polish professionally, working with a dozen writers from other cultures and languages. In this story, both the beauty of the world, multiculturalism, understanding people and places without knowing them and the worst of the world are on display. The translators are not only telling the latest work--a masterpiece?--of their undubitable author Irina Rey. They're also solving it.

  • Who it’s for: Adventurous readers
  • Why read it: To understand what stories can, and cannot, tell when translated
  • Don't read this when: You want clarity.

About Me

I’m Chrissy — a writer and editor who finds meaning in the details. My work explores technology, history, personal experience, and the ways we use and tell each other stories, both real and imagined.

After years writing for and working on corporate websites, I finally decided on a digital “place” for my own creativity.

About My Work

A few pieces I’ve written or contributed to:

In addition, I’ve built content marketing programs for companies that prioritize paying writers fairly globally. I’ve also mentored at FDFC and delivered a talk in Poland focused on sustainable IT practices — these experiences influence how I approach storytelling and impact.

“I think the first thing is that a significant portion of my career was as a freelance writer … So anything that I can do to help freelancers develop their skills, or network appropriately, a lot of it is the networking part, that means a lot to me.” — Freelance Coalition
“We all use the Internet, but we forget that the Internet works on hardware. And hardware accounts for about four percent of greenhouse-gas emissions and it doesn’t look like that percent is going to drop anytime soon.” — MamStartup

How to Recommend a Book to Someone

I love recommending books to friends but only when they ask me to. I never want to be the person that tells you to read the book I’m reading simply bc it’s what I’m reading at the moment.
